Solving Environmental Degradation

Renewable resources are those that are replaced in nature at a rate close to their rate of use. Nonrenewable resources exist in fixed amounts or are used up faster than they can be replaced in nature. Hydropower generation can be the perfect partner for less predictable renewable resources such as wind and solar generation for renewable resources. In fact, the Northwest must rely on its hydropower assets to turn the variable output of wind power into a more dependable resource. The state’s Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) law1 requires that 25% of the state’s electricity supply come from renewable resources by 2025. Many opportunities exist for renewable projects seeking to fill this niche.

Renewable resources include solar, wind, biomass, and some hydroelectricity. In order to achieve the RPS 25 by 2013 goal, NYSERDA offers grants and incentives to help bring down the costs of these clean resources and warming temperatures. Projects that conserve, manage, develop or protect Montana’s renewable resources are eligible for funding. Numerous public facility projects including drinking water, wastewater and solid waste development and improvement projects have received funding through this program. These criteria include consideration of the value and benefits of renewable resources.

These are called renewable resources. Trees are an example of a renewable resource. Renewable resources may also mean commodities such as wood, paper, and leather. The goal of the program is to identify customers that desire renewable resources in their generation mix and provide the technical and marketing assistance required for them to fully evaluate the option.

Once non-renewable resources from earth4energy are removed it will take a very, very long time, if ever, to replace them. We certainly will not see it again in our lifetime or that of the next generation. Soil, water, forests, plants, and animals are all renewable resources as long as they are properly conserved. Solar, wind, wave, and geothermal energies are based on renewable resources. Renewable resources may be consumed without endangering future consumption as long as use does not outstrip production of new resources, as in fishing. In a 1997 White Paper the European Union committed itself to the target of producing 12% of its energy from renewables by 2015.

Another way to make the environment cleaner is to use biofuels. From corn, algae and coconut oil, there are a lot of companies trying to make it into this difficult field.

Many a company enters into contracts with developers of renewable resources for the rights to the “RPS Attributes” that attach to the individual megawatt hours when they are generated. RPS Attributes are defined as any and all credits, benefits, emissions reductions, offsets, and allowances, however entitled, that are directly attributable to the electricity delivered by the renewable generator.
